DANCING ON ICEBERGS (2018)

DANCING ON ICEBERGS (2018)

Director: Corey Baker
Star: Madeleine Graham

The film, 'Antarctica: The First Dance', was created by Kiwi choreographer Corey Baker, and Royal New Zealand Ballet star Madeleine Graham.
The creative duo both spent 12 days on the ice for the film.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be there dancing. It was incredible," Ms Graham said. The Australian-born ballerina started dancing at age seven.

'Antarctica: The First Dance' features Ms Graham suspended within a glacier and sliding down mountainsides as temperatures reached as low as -16 degrees. "As dancers, we're used to looking out into the complete darkness, so to be dancing and looking out into something so spectacular and inspiring gave me that extra kind of feeling and reason to do what I was doing," she said.

For choreographer Corey Baker, the film has been a project two years in the making.
Mr Baker said the film is "hopefully beautiful but also powerful to be able to share a message around climate change that sticks with people in a different way".

SAIL AWAY (2018)

SAIL AWAY (2018)

Sail Away (2018)

Jarman, co-directed by Ella Becroft and Tama, and produced by Ilai Amir of Votre Arme.

It tells the story of Kevin, a young man who works in Quality Control at the town sardine factory. One day, on hearing the call of the wild, Kevin remembers his childhood dream of becoming a deep-sea sailor, and decides to leave his old life behind and launch into the unknown. He begins to build a fantastical boat in his backyard, much to the disdain of his family and friends.

Sail Away is about following your dreams, and being true to yourself - even if it means ignoring what conventionally equates to a successful or meaningful life.

The film is inspired by the cinematic techniques and clowning style of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, but in full colour and sound and with Tama's particular brand of humour. It's unique voice and style has captured the imagination of the New Zealand Film Commission as something fresh in the current landscape of filmmaking in New Zealand.

ISLANDS OF THE GULF (2018)

Islands of the Gulf was New Zealand’s first locally made TV documentary series and Shirley Maddock – as well as writing, presenting and directing – became the country’s first female television producer.

Intended as a one-off programme, the series ran to five half-hour episodes, screened when local faces were still a novelty on NZ television.

Maddock’s subsequent book of the same name became an instant bestseller, providing a snap shot of life in the 1960s Hauraki Gulf.

It has recently been reprinted to coincide with a remake of the television series by actress and writer Elisabeth Easther, the daughter of Shirley Maddock.

FORENSICS (SEASON 02)

Forensics is a six hour prime-time documentary ‘crime’ series. If you are a fan of real crime ‘whodunits’ and CSI’s forensic science, then this show will have you clinging to the edge of your seat.

But be warned – sometimes the truth can be stranger than fiction. In this series, forensic scientists and police are the ‘heroes’, science is the ‘secret weapon’, and our presenter the ‘guide’, as we unravel the evidence, put science to work, and discover the truth behind real crime case files.

Each programme focuses on a real single crime case that has occurred in the last decade and that was solved by the combination of clever crime investigation and forensic science.
The cases are pulled straight from the files of our New Zealand forensic experts, police and scene-of-crime officers. This is in-depth, fact- based, high-tech dramatic storytelling.

The cases cover all facets of forensic science including blood spatter, DNA, tool marking, digital forensics, toxicology, entomology, and the latest in cutting-edge scientific technology.

These spine-chilling tales are told in a mixture of stylistic recreations, real forensic and police evidence, interviews and archives. Although each episode follows the story of a homicide,
the focus is not on the ‘gruesome and gore’ but on the complexity of crime and cunning of crime-solvers.

Viewers are taken through the events as they unfolded for the police and the forensics team, finding clues directly from the crime scene and as the data is assessed, the intricate puzzle of what, when, where, how and who will begin to unfold.
